There’s a song I like to listen to called “Please” by Nine Inch Nails. The chorus comes in with a sharp buzz (including his screechy voice), like a surge of electricity. Every time I hear it, I can feel that I’m inhaling my second wind on a day in high school when I was heavily sleep deprived. There is no way of knowing anything about that day, or even if the memory consists of multiple days, of even if the song was stuck in my head that day or days. But it’s like I’m transported back there, in the halls, heavily sleep deprived, and just like the lyrics, “breathe, echoing the sound…”

Here’s another fan video of their latest song “Discipline”. The video calls itself the “official video” when there is none. It’s actually an animated CGI cartoon which features the band members as the Village People! Yes, I shit you not. Complete with costumes, a pink guitar, a disco ball, a scrolling pink marquee as a background, and a surprise ending! Watch it for yourself:

Before music and the computer got together, songs would be in your head all day long. One time in 4th grade (1994) I went on a camping trip and as there was no radio there, a Madonna song from the radio on the car was stuck in my head the entire three days I was there!

But some songs are even more deadly. I’ve made a top 5 list of "fatally catchy" songs (songs that won’t leave your head, EVER). 5 to 1, least catchy to worst.
